Song of the Day: Tijuana Panthers - Set Forth

Long Beach trio Tijuana Panthers definitely doesn't fit the bill of normal. Their label is quick to point out that "the real magic of this band is in their weirdness", and it's a sentiment that can be applied to both the bands personality and the music they make. From biker bar shows and claymation videos to the group's unique mix of pop coated surf, garage and punk, the avoidance of the regular is the band's status quo. Recently, Tijuana Panthers continued their streak of releasing interestingly catchy music, with their latest LP, Poster. From it, today's featured song, "Set Forth", begins with a funky show-stealing bass line that is soon joined by crisp percussion and a rolling guitar riff. The vocals are uttered in punk like fashion, riding a staccatoed melody before letting out to beach ready "ooooh's" and a reverb drenched chorus. It's a prime example of how the band's refusal to play by the book is a blessing to the ears.
