KEXP

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today, we are featuring a special Halloween appropriate song, selected by DJ Sharlese. Sharlese’s pick is "Haunted" by Fruit Juice from the 2015 album Are You Okay on Swoon Records.

Fruit Juice - Haunted (MP3)Sharlese says...

Olympia’s Fruit Juice remind me so much of of Montreal with their own twist on vocal experimentation and instrumentation. They always have something fun happening in their songs - if it’s not hand claps, it’s a great beat with fun lyrics. Are You Okay is the most recent release from them and “Haunted” is the track you can listen to below. What’s so fun about it is the progression - it starts out slow and steady featuring eerie layered vocals with lyrics that could be considered Halloweenesque, essentially moving you forward to wonder. Then the progression moves faster and more “haunting” as to say with a ghostly ending! It’s a really great song, that’s part of a great release!

Fruit Juice are not unfortunately performing on Halloween, but they do play regularly in the Northwest, so be sure to follow them on Facebook, so you can see what they're up to next, and listen to more songs on Bandcamp. For now, check out their video, the also aptly titled "Terra-Fi":
