When you name your album Weirdon, you set an expectation, and the Philly-based lo-fi project Purling Hiss certainly deliver on the track "Forcefield of Solitude," which KEXP is proud to premiere on air at 1PM today. The album hits shelves September 23rd on Drag City Records.

Purling Hiss began in 2009 as a solo home-recording project of singer/songwriter Mike Polizze, whose burned CD-Rs garnered him opening spots for bands like Kurt Vile and the War on Drugs. After releases on Woodsist and Mexican Summer, the band matured into a trio last year for their first release on Drag City, Water On Mars, an album that captured Polizze stepping out from his basement studio and emerging as a full-fledged power band.

With Weirdon, the Philly phreaks continue the evolution, with their sonic sounds taking a new pop direction, still firmly rooted in their origins of punk and psychedelia.
