It took nearly six years, but the members of Tuatara finally heard the shaman's call. The members of the collaborative Seattle collective, led by drummer and producer Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season, Walking Papers), gathered once again outside of the plain of their ordinary lives to create another album of instrumental worldliness and metaphysical otherworldliness. Joining Martin on Underworld, with original members Skerik and Justin Harwood (Luna), is a host of guest contributors including Peter Buck of R.E.M., Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, and legendary producer Jack Endino. As the band often claims, Tuatara plays soundtracks to films never made, but with song titles like "The Skeleton Getdown", "Gremlin Chain Gang", and "Even Demons Fall In Love", it's easy to picture a Burton-esque cast of characters populating Underworld. A similarly eclectic group possessed the KEXP studio space earlier this week, consisting of Martin and Skerik, along with local talents Evan Flory-Barnes on bass, Steve Moore on keys and trombone, Andy Coe on guitar, and, performing live with Barrett Martin for the first time since their Mad Season days two decades ago, Mike McCready also on guitar. Step into the underworld as Tuatara makes hell a heaven on earth live on KEXP:
