Song of the Day: EDJ - Lose It All, All The Time

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s song, featured on The Midday Show with DJ Cheryl Waters, is “Lose It All, All The Time” by EDJ from the 2014 album EDJ out August 5th on Easy Sound.

As the frontman for the Fruit Bats, Eric D. Johnson wrote sunny folk-pop songs with a psychedelic vibe. After the band's demise last November, Johnson has gone solo under the alias EDJ and is striving to break away from that happy-go-lucky sound.

In a press release, Johnson explains, "There was no stylistic dogma in making this record, and I was ready to fold in every type of music I was into at the moment – Joni Mitchell, new age, early 80′s McCartney, Another Green World, film scores, Talk Talk, British folk, and modern stuff that’s got me excited." He brought in friends like Andy Cabic of Vetiver, Tim Rutili from Califone, The Shins’ James Mercer and Nathan Larson of Shudder to Think. You can hear all the results on August 5th when his self-titled debut comes out on Easy Sound, but 'til then KEXP is thrilled to present a sneak peek with today's Song of the Day.
