"Follow me to hill country," singer-songerwriter Israel Nash invites at the outset of his recent in-studio at KEXP, and you can't help but feel immediately transported not just in place but in time. Born in Missouri, Nash sought his fortune in New York before settling in Texas hill country. In Dripping Springs, he conceived Rain Plans, his latest album (out now in the U.K. and due next month in the U.S.), which feels as much a revelation as it does a throwback to when times were better, simpler, truer to nature. As Midday Show host Cheryl Waters observed, nearly breathless after hearing two songs from it performed live, "you can really get lost" in Nash's music, and like her, you'll feel you've been listening to it your whole life.
