Lyla Foy - Feather Tongue (MP3)
Originally working underneath the moniker WALL, Lyla Foy first released her song "No Secrets," anticipating the music-community of London would receptively receive her late-night creative projects consisting of subdued drums and powerful bass. After a couple features on the local radio and some attention in Pitchfork, she created quite the buzz. Eventually, she landed a deal with Seattle's Sub Pop, over 4,000 miles away. Now, proud of her hard-work, she's released Mirrors the Sky under her own name, no longer afraid of ruining her reputation. A diverely informed musican, she cites influences like Chuck Berry and Teenage Fanclub, as well as Jenny Lewis and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. So, thanks to artists like Lyla Foy, the style of 80's electronic singer-songwriter pop-stars has increased in fluidity and ambiance, giving the entire movement a new vitality. Today's Song of the Day is a beautifully-wrought, minimalistic song about, as the title suggests, the fleeting nature of a lover's secret. Smoky and tantalizing, here's "Feather Tongue." Happy listening!
