Every month, Red Bull Sound Select hosts a concert in eleven cities across the country (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Nashville, Austin, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, Minneapolis, Seattle and Portland), and for June, they've asked KEXP to curate the line-up! Here's what we've come up with:
Opening the show is Redmond rap duo Kung Foo Grip, led by MC EFF Is H and Greg Cypher. The East Side group released the album, Growing Up In The Future, just last year, featuring guest spots from Shaprece, Jarv Dee, Kris Kasanova, and many more. Northwest MC collective Nu Era are next on the bill with their vivacious live show.
And closing out the night is the legendary hip-hop group Souls of Mischief. Formed in Oakland, California in 1991 as part of the Hieroglyphics collective, their breakthrough debut, 93 'til Infinity, took them around the world, opening for acts like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, and is cited as a favorite by artists from Kanye West to Vampire Weekend. The influential Bay Area crew are releasing their sixth album, There Is Only Now, this August, and a documentary about the band is currently in the works.Tickets are a ridiculously cheap $3, but you've gotta RSVP here. These events are first-come, first-served, so arrive early for a better chance of admission.
It may be the 43rd year of the Fremont Fair, but it's the inaugural year for the accompanying Solstice Concert Series! And they're kicking things off in a big way, as only you would expect from the neighborhood that calls itself the "Center of the Universe."
Get drunk in tribute to those who aren't old enough to do so! This week, our friends at the Vera Project kick off the 12th Annual A Drink for the Kids, a lost-weekend-long fundraiser for 21+ music lovers to support the beloved all-ages venue, just by drinking at their favorite bar.The opening night…
