Video Roundup: 1994

Twenty years ago, music had one of its most creatively abundant years of music. 1994 saw strong debut releases in every genre, from Oasis to Outkast. Grunge was at the height of its power with excellent local releases from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana released their MTV Unplugged session. Sadly, it was also the year the music world lost Cobain, but his influence reverberated through many releases, including Hole's Live Through This and Meat Puppets' Too High to Die. Guided By Voices, Pavement, Sonic Youth, and R.E.M. all released what are now deemed "classic" albums. Beastie Boys surprised the music world with their groundbreaking Ill Communication release, and Portishead launched the Bristol trip-hop scene with their debut, Dummy. Today on The Morning Show on KEXP, DJ John Richards pays tribute to this incredible year of music, and here on the KEXP Blog, we've rounded up just a sampling of sounds that emerged from those fertile twelve months.
