At KEXP, we love us some Tomo Nakayama — Grand Hallway frontman, member of local acts Gold Leaves, Sera Cahoone and The Maldives, Seattle Rock Orchestra collaborator — not to mention, the new Seattle Town Hall Artist in Residence.
Join Tomo Nakayama at Town Hall on Tuesday, April 29th for "Scratch Night," an interactive, hands-on presentation of music, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.The evening starts with new songs, performed by Nakayama, Kevin Murphy of The Moondoggies, Hanna Benn of Pollens, and Grant Olsen of Gold Leaves and Arthur & Yu.
After the performance, join an exploration of the creative process, as the artists and the audience discuss music and consider questions such as, what’s in a song, and what makes a chord work? But wait, there's more: 30 minutes of open mic, and afterwards, a special after-party with Nakayama and others at Capitol Cider.
This amazing interactive evening takes place at Great Hall; enter on 8th Avenue. Tickets are free, but reservations via the “Buy Tickets” link encouraged. Town Hall members receive priority seating. Be sure to arrive early to sign-up, if you’re interested in playing the open mic.
Earlier this month, we shared the initial line-up for the 2014 Capitol Hill Block Party, and today we bring you the whole darn thing, as announced by festival owner Jason Lajeunesse on The Morning Show on KEXP.
Northwest troubadour Colin Meloy shared a new song with our neighbors to the north late last week. Titled "Carolina Low," the song was apparently written the same day it was performed on the air. Stream the track via CBC's Q with Jian Ghomeshi at Pitchfork. [Pitchfork]
Meagan Grandall, the talented songstress behind the Seattle band Lemolo, is in the midst of recording a new album, fresh off the heals of The Kaleidoscope. Equipped with one of the sweetest voices in the city, coupled with enough mystery to drive Sherlock Holmes batty, Grandall is working late, lat…
We can't wholeheartedly "suggest" this, but morbid curiosity sure makes it one of the most compelling shows this month: The Pizza Underground are on their debut North American tour, entitled Fresh to Your Door, and are "delivering" (in 30 minutes or less?) to Chop Suey on Monday, April 28th, with T…
