Happy Earth Day, everybody. Today we celebrate the birth of our planet... oh, wait, no, today we pay attention to the giant sphere hurtling through space that we all live on, and hopefully take a few moments to reflect on the valuable gifts it gives us and our own impact upon it. Earth Day itself started in 1970 and is currently celebrated by over 192 countries each year. Though it started in an age of growing environmental concern, activists, liberals and scientists aren't the only earth-minded citizens on, uh, earth. Artists and musicians have been obsessed with our Big Blue Ball since they first scraped its dirt off their shoes. Gathered here are a handful of earth-related songs to help you celebrate our shared mother in whatever way you choose, and of course, it wouldn't be Earth Day without few cautionary tales.

Oh, Cinco de Mayo, you poor, misunderstood holiday. As KEXP's own DJ Chilly, host of El Sonido, explains, May 5th is not "Mexican Independence Day," like so many believe. It actually commemorates the 1862 Battle of Puebla when a small Mexican army defeated the French. That's worth celebrating, righ…
In a bizarre act of serendipity, Easter falls on April 20th this year, or, uh, "4/20". So, be careful what kind of "Easter grass" you use to line your baskets, and your kids might have to battle some adults in the Easter candy aisle. In fact, plenty of different treats will be, um, "baked" this we…
