Named for the Flamin' Groovies' quintessential pop anthem, Shake Some Action! are keeping the power pop tradition alive one major chord at a time. Led by Australia-born singer/guitarist James Hall, the band has been a Seattle mainstay since 2007, when they released their self-titled debut album. Since then, Hall has released four more albums of Rickenbacker-powered guitar pop, incorporating elements of '90s Britpop and early garage rock into his melodic mix. Although the band remains rooted in classic pop melodies, Catch The Sun, the band's fifth album, incorporates more toward hazy kaleidoscopic pop tones akin to those that Kevin Parker has so effectively mined with Tame Impala and Melody's Echo Chamber. When Hall's voice wavers over a jangly guitar line during the verses "Wait for the Summer", he crafts a tone that splits the difference between psychedelic bliss and '60s surf melodies. When Hall reaches the smooth and sweet chorus melody, it's clear that "Waiting For The Sun" more than aptly serves as a glimmer of hope for those of us who are still trudging through winter. (And if it sounds great now, it's going to sound infinitely better when soundtracking some actual sunshine.)
