Friday on My Mind: The 2014 Yule Benefit!

It’s time again for Friday on My Mind. Our weekly blog post where we look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News.

All Hail!!! This weekend marks the return of KEXP’s Yule Benefit Show taking place this Saturday, December 20th at Neumos. All proceeds will go towards helping build KEXP’s New Home. We are still blown away by the love and support shown by our listeners during last week’s new home drive. We are halfway to our overall goal for making our new home come to life over at the Seattle Center grounds, but there’s still more to go. And a fun and easy way that people can give a gift towards our new home is to simply get out on a Saturday night and see some live music. While helping our new become a reality, those who get tickets for tomorrow’s show will get to see some of the best live acts of 2014. To get you ready for this weekend, here is a preview of the artists you’ll get to see loud and live at this year’s Yule Benefit.

Strand of Oaks- Goshen ‘97 (Live on KEXP)

We are very proud to bring back Timothy Showalter, aka Strand of Oaks, to Seattle this Saturday as the headliner for the 2014 Yule. This year’s Strand of Oaks release, HEAL is my top album of this year. In fact, today during The Morning Show, I am playing my top song plays for all of 2014 and Strand of Oaks made, not just one, but four appearances on my playlist for the morning. Strand of Oaks blew Seattle away and sold out the Sunset Tavern when they last came through and now is a chance to see them in a bigger venue. Here is their KEXP performance of “Goshen ‘97” from this past August.

Cymbals Eat Guitars- Jackson (Live on KEXP)

Guitarist Joseph D’Agostino and drummer Matthew Miller formed Cymbals Eat Guitars in 2007 in New Jersey. Join KEXP from 6 PM to 8 PM for a special VIP party with Cymbals Eat Guitars prior to the doors opening for the show. For those who join us for the VIP party, they’ll get to hang with and sit in while the band soundchecks. KEXP DJs will be hanging out as well, so you can hang with them all before the show actually starts. To sweeten the deal, there is food and a no-host bar. There are only so many tickets and and it all goes towards our new home. Cabana- Eli (official video)

Seattle’s very own Cabana will be a part of this weekend’s Yule festivities. This local trio make a lot of sound for just three people.
