Although the shoegaze references are are immediately obvious, Oyama have proven themselves more more than "the Icelandic My Bloody Valentine". Certainly, the reference, and reverence, is there, but the young five-piece, sharing a name with the relatively small Japanese central city, has grown into a sonic metropolis of multiple influences, from psychedelic to ambient. Their debut album, Coolboy, will be released soon in Iceland and Japan, but still awaits a U.S. release. Check out "Siblings", possibly one of the most rocking songs these creative more-than-navel-gazers have written so far.
