November spawned a lot of good releases this week, including the debut release from Les Sins, a side project of Toro Y Moi’s Chaz Bundick. KEXP's Music Director Don Yates notes the album "is a smartly constructed blend of house, techno and hip hop beats with warm synths and repeated vocal hooks."
Mariachi El Bronx share their third release, which "brings a bit more of a modern flavor to their mariachi-inspired music, combining blaring brass, swelling strings, rhythmic acoustic guitars and Latin percussion with subtle electronic textures on a variety of anthemic songs with heartfelt, sometimes politically inspired lyrics." On their 13th release, west coast weirdos Deerhoof bring "a bit more of an energetic, punk-inspired kick to their playful avant-rock, featuring bright angular guitars, shape-shifting rhythms and Satomi Matsuzaki’s sweetly melodic vocals." And Seattle's own Tomo Nakayama (our Morning Show in-studio guest) releases his debut solo album, "a beautifully crafted and somewhat more intimate take on the lush chamber folk-pop he made with his previous band [Grand Hallway]."
