The popularity of today's folk rock stars, from Iron & Wine and Billy Bragg to Mumford & Sons and Of Monsters and Men, all owe a large debt to American folk legend Pete Seeger, who passed away yesterday at age 94. To the end, Seeger was a champion, activist and resounding voice for civil rights and equality. Both an author of songs like "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" and "Turn, Turn, Turn!", as well as an interpreter of American classics like "This Land is Your Land", "Oh Mary, Don't You Weep", and "We Shall Overcome", Seeger brought folk music to the households across the country as a radio performer and personality in the 1940s and then became an icon of the folk revival in the 50s and 60s. Read more about the Pete Seeger and his legacy here, here and here and listen all day for songs written, performed and popularized by one of the greatest folk artists this country has ever produced as we celebrate his life.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXKJ1jPuaoI
