Watching Shovels & Rope perform is almost like stepping into their living room. Married Charleston, SC, duo Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst perform so lovingly together and write some very intimate ballads that at times you feel like you might be intruding on them. But we've also hosted them enough times — in-studio, Concerts at the Mural, Pickathon, and most recently at The Triple Door — to know that they also throw a heck of a rollicking party. During their performance exclusively for members of KEXP's VIP Club, Shovels & Rope took us from hand-holding harmonies of brotherly love to foot-stomping hoedowns and connected us all into a "wonderful vicious circle of music and love for music".
