What? Sub Pop is turning 25 and you didn’t get them anything for their birthday? Well, you can still make it up to them! On July 12th, the world-famous record label, will be throwing a party at Seattle's Moore Theatre featuring performances from Marc Maron, Kristen Schaal, Jon Benjamin and Kurt Braunohler. Really! You can go!
The evening, hosted by comedian Eugene Mirman, is the preface to Sub Pop’s big Silver Jubilee gala slated for the following day, July 13th in Georgetown. The aptly but not concisely named Sub Pop Records Silver Jubil-Eve Comedy Thing (For Charity!), which, also aptly, costs $25 to get in, will benefit KEXP, Northwest Harvest and the Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation.
The Russian-born Mirman, who, among other projects, voices Gene Belcher on the television show Bob’s Burgers, released a comedy album on Sup Pop in 2006 titled En Garde, Society. The album touches on religion, bears, drinking, and swearing in Russian! Maron, famous for his WTF podcast, will headline the show and probably have something snarky to say! Schaal, known for her role as Mel on the show Flight of the Conchords, grew up on a cattle farm near Boulder, CO before moving to New York City. This is information you need to know!
Benjamin, who started his career in Boston, was the voice of Coach McGuirk on the cartoon Home Movies. He also did the voice of Ben on Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist and he currently does the voice of Bob Belcher for Bob’s Burgers. Braunohler, a contributor to the show Chelsea Lately, also works on Bob’s Burgers (I’m officially getting hungry now!) and was named by Funny or Die! as one of the best comedians using the video app, Vine.
So come and enjoy the night with laughter and cheering. Celebrate Sub Pop and the 25 years of excellence from the iconic Seattle label. And support local organizations that do good work! This night is for you!
Tickets for the event can be purchased here. Doors are at 7PM and the show starts at 8PM! Check out performances by some the comedians here:
Heading down to Georgetown today for the FREE, all-ages Sub Pop Silver Jubilee? Yes, of course you are, we all are. But you might want to consider heading over earlier in the day to check out some of the literary and art events happening at the Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery.
Hey, Sub Pop Records, you blushin' yet? All week long, KEXP has been asking their roster, their minions, and the Seattle music community to share their memories of this legendary label as we help celebrate their 25th anniversary and eagerly await the Sub Pop Silver Jubilee this Saturday, July 13th.
