Like goths on a beach, the dark sounds of Daughter may seem out of place on sunny summer day, but few bands make "moody" music that's not downright depressing as well as this UK trio. Their atmospheric debut LP, If You Leave, arrives just in time for the warmer weather, and you may find yourself, windows down, heading west, singing the words to "Smother" ("In the darkness I will meet my creators / They will all agree, I’m a suffocator"). Okay, that may be pushing it, but there's a reason why two of their songs have been featured on the seductive guilty pleasure The Vampire Diaries -- Daughter's music is too alluring and gorgeous to be dour, and as the songs range from hushed quietude to jangling mid-tempo rockers, Elena Tonra's dusty voice hits you in all the right places. Recently, Daughter returned to KEXP's airwaves, though for the first time in Seattle (we've previously broadcast them twice from NYC), and performed this entrancing set live on the Morning Show with John:
