Ray Manzarek, founding member of influential '60s band The Doors, passed away this morning at the age of 74 after a battle with bile duct cancer.
Doors guitarist Robby Krieger said in a statement, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today. I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."
Manzarek formed The Doors with fellow film student Jim Morrison, after meeting by chance on Venice Beach in 1965. His signature keyboard style helped define their sound, particularly notable on the hit single "Light My Fire."
After The Doors broke up in 1973, Manzarek produced albums for X, Echo & the Bunnymen, and played alongside Iggy Pop. See more of Manzarek's work and influence in this video round-up below:
