The Dodos have announced a new album, Carrier, which will be out on August 27th, and they've shared "Confidence" from that album. Carrier follows the loss of guitarist Christopher Reimer, who joined The Dodos in 2011. Singer Meric Long revealed that Reimer was a big musical influence for him, “seeing how he could transform and shape sound with an electric guitar inspired me to explore more tones and use those tones to begin writing a song.” [Pitchfork]
Just in case your morning wasn't creepy enough, Queens of the Stone Age have yet another video out. This one feels a bit more like a violence scene from Mad Max crossed with a video game than the others - and was again illustrated by Boneface. Glistening ambient queen Julianna Barwick has finally released plans for a follow up to her 2011 LP The Magic Place. The album is called Nepenthe, which apparently is a magic kind of forgetfulness that was used in Greek literature to erase grief and sorrow, and comes after Barwick experienced a death in her family. We have the first track, "Forever", below - on which are the voices of several teenage girls. [Pitchfork]
The latest news from Ty Segall strikes me as impossible - because clearly everyone knows that Segall is the garage rock god who never sleeps, how can he when he is dropping a new album or side project every week? Oh, is that someone waving, at me?! Do I know them? Oh, wait, they were waving behind me. Mayer Hawthorne has teamed up with Jessie Ware on his track "Her Favorite Song" from his upcoming Where Does This Door Go. It's not just pop and it isn't quite pure soul revival, really it's an upbeat ode to those late nights when you get home and while the night wasn't that great and you don't feel that good, you aren't giving up hope because - "the world keeps turning, life goes on".
