The name of their 2009 release (2008 in Colombia), “Blow Up”, was prescient. While the music of Bomba Estéreo is stylistically explosive, their popularity at the time of its release was just beginning to grow. We watched them ascend as their in-studio performance from late 2009 quickly became one of our most popular videos and opened another continent of viewers on the KEXP YouTube channel. Since they, they've performed live on KEXP from the Bumbershoot Music Lounge in 2010 and sold out the Tractor in 2011. Now, with the release of Elegancia Tropical, Bomba Estéreo is ready to ignite. Combining Afro-Colombian styles of cumbia and champeta with hip hop, funk, rock and various electronic dance grooves, their songs are made for packed dancehalls and giant summer festivals, which is where they're already playing in Latin America. We were lucky to get them back in-studio before their sold out Seattle show earlier this month. Watch the videos here now:
