Wasn't I just talking about my childhood love of The Charlatans UK? Indeed I was. So it seemed like a fine time to take a moment to check out the debut album from these lovable Mancunians - who, it must be said, are still going strong, having released their 11th studio album in 2010 and rumored to be working on the 12th this year.
This groovy British pop sound, rounded out with heaping doses of Hammond organ and Manc-accented, somewhat disaffected vocals, was a revelation to me back in 1990. Of course, not having been a college DJ through the '80s, I didn't have the perspective that some of our friends at KCMU might have had. It's nice to see that even these inveterate music snobs found something to enjoy here.
