Australian band San Cisco’s first time in Seattle included a stop by KEXP for an in-studio with Cheryl Waters. “That was more fun than a barrel of monkeys,” joked Waters, describing the performance. Formed in 2009 in the small city of Fremantle, Australia (the same town home to Tame Impala), San Cisco is a four-piece jangly group with roots in folk music that now features an indie, reverb-infused, high-energy pop sound. The band has toured Europe and recently shook the stage at Neumo’s in Capitol Hill. Upon conclusion of their U.S. tour, the group has plans for their own headlining tour in their home country. Their newest album, self-titled, was released in 2012 and is the fourth release from the group. Composed and cheery, San Cisco owned their KEXP performance, sounding like seasoned veterans, mixing bright guitar tones with catchy lyrics, like on their song “Fred Astaire” where lead singer Jordi Davieson sings, “And God knows, that it’s a common misconception that I’m the only one for you. Yeah, I can take you out for breakfast and he can take you ‘round the world!” See videos from their KEXP performance here.
