This week's Songs of the Day were selected by KEXP DJ Kevin Cole, host of Drive Time, showcasing artists playing at this year’s ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) Festival. ESNS is a European new music showcase festival and conference committed to presenting and supporting the best new and emerging artists. This year’s festival will take place January 18-21, 2023 in Groningen, NL.

This is the rallying cry for the Portugal-based quartet Club Makumba, who describe themselves as a "free, spontaneous, experimental, and tribalist exercise."
On their self-titled debut album, band members Tó Trips (guitars), João Doce (drums), Gonçalo Prazeres (saxophone) and Gonçalo Leonardo (bass and double bass) draw inspiration from the music of the Mediterranean and North African rhythms. As they share in a press statement, "They are hymns dedicated to all those who are trying to live a better life on these western shores, neglected by a Europe that is increasingly closed in on itself."
