Formed in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2011, "no-gaze" noise trio The Sweet Release of Death have been crafting sonic squalls of feedback over the past decade, reaching new heights on their third LP The Blissful Joy Of Living which came out in October 2019. The dissonance on today's Song of the Day reflects the disharmony that influenced it: bassist/vocalist Alicia Breton Ferrer told Dutch broadcasting corporation VPRO that songs were written during a difficult stage of her life, enduring the loss of her beloved grandmother and suffering from panic attacks and sleep paralysis. Guitarist Martijn Tevel points out the irony of their latest album title. "Now I am increasingly accepting that life is pure chaos, and that it is no longer just negative," Tevel revealed to VPRO. "In addition: I am increasingly realizing that I can also get something out of that grief and make it work for me. I don't even see it as a phase anymore. Life is one big fucking chaos, and I just go along with it."
