Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter Melanie Charles boasts a wealth of experience at a young age: she grew up singing in church and attended the prestigious LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts where she trained in opera. As a student at the New School in New York, she studied both jazz and contemporary music. After graduating, she began learning how to make beats on a sampler. And all of this blends into another one her 2017 full-length The Girl with the Green Shoes.
Today's Song of the Day is Charles's rendition of the 1964 pop hit "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am" sung by Nancy Wilson, a track that garnered her a Grammy Award for "Best Rhythm & Blues Recording" in 1965.
