Last month, funk outfit the Budos Band returned with their first album in five years, V, via the iconic Daptone Records. The record continues their streak of expertly crafted soul combined with retro rock.

This is best displayed on today’s Song of the Day, “Old Engine Oil,” a gritty scorcher that uses a Zeppelin-esque guitar riff, hard-hitting drums, and anthemic horns to create one powerful instrumental track. Guitarist/producer Tom Brenneck previously said this about the song:

“Budos is back with a vengeance, I think that if you don’t want to either get in a car and drive fast or just pour yourself a strong drink and start having some fun, then you’re not listening to it loud enough.”
