2019 has been a prolific year thus far for UK producer/DJ Star Slinger (aka Darren Williams). Since January, he’s been dropping a new single every few weeks, a total of seven so far. Our Song of the Day is the first from this streak, “Choose Yourself.”
Inspired by and directly taken from the book by James Altucher of the same name, the song sees Williams speak excerpts from the book, which is a series of advice of personal growth, over a relaxed instrumental beat. Williams writes this on his blog about the song:
“This song will help you get out of a rut. This song will help when you feel you’ve lost your way. This song will help guide you. This spoken word song condenses quotes from a very helpful book I read last year.
"I guess the book itself could be perceived as self-help nonsense on the surface but under the hood, it is sage practical advice from a guy who had it all and lost it all. He got back up & repeated that cycle several times and eventually found peace in the middle.”
He continues on to explain that the song was inspired by Baz Luhrmann's “Everyone’s Free To Wear Sunscreen” and that it will be included on a forthcoming project, possibly an EP or LP, titled Music To Help You Read More. Watch the video for “Choose Yourself” below.
