Baltimore's Wye Oak return with their fifth album, The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs, on April 6 via Merge Records. The title track from the album gives us plenty to be dazzled by. The synthesizer arpeggiations on the intro are an aural opening of the currents, revealing the lush swooning of the band's high soaring harmonies and punches of guitar distortion. As the name itself implies, the intensity of the song only picks up the further you get in. Lead vocalist Jenn Wasner's voice repeats the title again and again as the instrumentation continues to surge underneath. And just when you feel like the energy of the song could explode, they pull back and drift out of sight. Wye Oak play Seattle on July 15 at Neumos. - Jasmine Albertson
