Turkish singer-songwriter and producer Gaye Su Akyol is actively working against the oppression of free expression through her eclectic music inspired by psych, grunge, surf, electronic, and traditional Turkish folk. She released her third album in five years and second international release, İstikrarlı Hayal Hakikattir, in mid-November. The album, whose title translates to “Consistent Fantasy Is Reality,” has been garnering positive critical acclaim in American outlets since its release. Our Song of the Day is the Dick Dale-inspired surf-rock number “Laziko.” Su Akyol shows her imagination through surreal lyrics that translate to “I became a cat/and ran up on the roof/I rained down your window.” In an artist statement, Su Akyol proclaimed: "We need to create a counter-reality in order to challenge organized evil and the horrible reality it creates, and the strongest option here is ‘consistent dreaming."
