“If The Phantom of the Opera had a pedal steel” or “Enya meets Phil Collins’ Tarzan soundtrack” — this is how Torres (real name: Mackenzie Scott) has described her fourth and latest album Silver Tongue. It's not only her first album for esteemed indie label Merge Records, but it's the first she's ever produced herself. "It was a control thing," she admitted to Refinery 29, "but it was also an acknowledgment on my part that there is not a guarantee that I'll get to make a new record. It's never guaranteed, and it's not that I thought that before it's just that making this record, especially, felt like such a trial. I figured, if I was getting this opportunity to record a new album, it was imperative to me that it be something that was 100% mine."
As a result, Silver Tongue is her most personal and barefaced release yet, detailing the end of a relationship and the beginning of her latest love affair with artist Jenna Gribbon (who also painted the album cover). The accompanying video portrays Scott as a lovelorn cowboy. Director Ashley Connor describes it as "an ode to every sacrificial act of love starring our hero Cowboy Mackenzie, who will gladly carry any lover through the snow." Watch below, and check out her upcoming tour dates, including a March 31st stop at the Tractor Tavern and a performance at the 2020 Treefort Music Fest in Boise, Idaho.
