Aiming for a sound she describes as a combination of "Cocteau Twins and Alanis Morissette," today's Song of the Day from Jay Som (real name: Melina Duterte) gives us our first taste of her forthcoming full-length Anak Ko, out August 23rd via Polyvinyl.
The album was written while on sabbatical in Joshua Tree. "I came up with the vocal melody while chopping onions during a rare snowstorm in Joshua Tree, definitely one of my favorite memories from making the album," she reflects via a press release. The album was then recorded, produced, engineered and mixed by Duterte at home with special guests Vagabon's Laetitia Tamko, Chastity Belt's Annie Truscott, Justus Proffit, Boy Scouts' Taylor Vick, as well as bandmates Zachary Elasser, Oliver Pinnell and Dylan Allard collaborating on the release.
Jay Som plays Neumos on September 18th with Boy Scouts and Affectionately.
