Shreveport-based soulsters Seratones return with their sophomore release Power on August 23rd via New West Records. Get a sneak peek with the lead single "Gotta Get To Know Ya," a song frontwoman A.J. Haynes describes as a love song to Mother Earth.
“We’re all at once frightened and entranced by nature,” Haynes told Billboard. “There’s a parallel with romance somewhere in there, I’m sure. This song encapsulates my ever-lingering anxiety about global warming and my electric need to dance in order to escape said existential doom.” The R&B-tinged jam deftly displays the band's own increased power since their 2016 debut Get Gone. Working with Bradley Shultz of Cage The Elephant on production, the new album from the Louisiana quintet focuses on Haynes' "years fighting for reproductive rights and serving as a counselor at one of Louisiana’s last remaining abortion providers, her advocacy for racial equality, her struggles to adapt and overcome, her love of poetry, and much more."
Seratones play September 3rd in Seattle at the Tractor Tavern. Until then, check out the video for today's Song of the Day, directed by Danielle Calodney. Haynes shares that the clip was inspired by "the surrealist black comedy/horror of Little Shop of Horrors as well as David Lynch's Blue Velvet," telling Billboard she and the director "were playing around with the idea of nature taking over our interior world, as if to reclaim its own."
