Austin duo Black Pumas are here to bring Motown back to the forefront with their dynamic take on soul, adding vivacious psychedelic instrumentation to make a sound uniquely theirs. Made up of singer Eric Burton and Grammy-nominated producer Adrian Quesada, the duo are releasing their debut self-titled record next much, with fervent anticipation building behind the fairly new band.

Our Song of the Day is the charmingly plucky neo-soul track “Colors.” The band said this about the inspiration behind the song:

“Eric woke up midday and started the song as the sun was going down. He was inspired by the rich multicolored hues of the sky. The song was written in the themes of mortality and togetherness.”

Black Pumas drops June 21 via ATO. The band has also shared the singles “Black Moon Rising” and “Fire.” Below, watch Black Pumas perform “Colors” live for Austin 360 as their Artist of the Month for May 2018.
