somesurprises began as a solo songwriting project of Natasha El-Sergany, but after sharing a bill with Josh Medina at the 2016 Debacle Fest, the two began collaborating for what would become their debut LP Serious Dreams, released in 2017 on Eiderdown Records.
With their latest self-titled LP, somesurprises expands even further, this time, inviting collaborators Emma Danner, Andrew Scott Young, Nico Sophiea, and Brenan Chambers into the studio to take their experimental, shoegaze-tinged sound to further heights.
"Having a solid rhythm section is everything, and expands the possibilities from just walking around in a comfort zone of making kind of spacy folk music into having an actual engine and being able to travel and get to new places," El-Sergany told Volume 1 Brooklyn earlier this month. "Writing together is a rewarding process and I think the record is ultimately a document of many group decisions, spoken and unspoken."
