Over the past couple of years, New Orleans natives Generationals have been pumping out singles upon completion rather than releasing in the traditional album format. Last month, the duo decided to collect the nine singles released between 2017 and 2018 into one package called State Dogs: Singles 2017-18. Our Song of the Day, “Beggars in the House of Plenty,” is a disco-tinged dance track that takes on the capitalist greed of those running our country.
"’Beggars in the House of Plenty’ is a song about the perils of oligarchy and the disproportionate power of the wealthiest in our society,” explains Grant Widmer. “The video mocks the tropes and wankery of US Senate hearings which have often been cynically deployed to give a veil of legitimacy to the political theater of a fundamentally undemocratic body — after all, senators representing 16% of the US population can comprise a majority vote in the US Senate*. In fact, senators representing 44% of the US population recently confirmed Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Democracy baby.”
