If you haven’t heard the name Among Authors yet, you’re about to hear it a lot. The Seattle-based band are on a hot streak after the release of their debut album, I Am Become, last year. Thanks, in part, to Kevin Cole’s support of the band but, mostly, from the incredible music they make. Their take on atmospheric art-rock is something few are doing at the moment and they are doing it very very well. The album took nearly four years to make and came to be when frontman Ian Ketterer was spurred into action after undergoing open heart surgery at the age of 23. Originally from Wisconsin, Ketterer moved to Seattle soon after the surgery and formed Among Authors. Our song of the day, “Lure,” is a tragically dreamy track that finds Ketterer’s gorgeous vocals soar and twist in Thom Yorke-ian fashion (I also hear a lot of The Antlers in their sound). The band will play their first KEXP in-studio on Friday, August 24, with a full performance at the Crocodile following the next day, August 25. Below, check out the video for “Imitation House,” for which the band hand drew the scenes, took photos, and then animated it all using Adobe Premiere.
