I have a love for non-traditional Christmas songs. Make 'em funny, angry or anything different from the standard X-mas tune, but also make 'em good. I own like – I dunno – over a 100 Christmas themed albums, plus another few hundred singles. There are very few full X-mas albums that I like from beginning to end. Maybe even just the James Brown X-mas album is the only one that holds up? So I'm excited to say SOCKS by JD McPherson is a great album with nary a bad song to be found. Great soul, R&B and a hint of garage rock – this is a GREAT album! My personal favorite is the jokey "Hey Skinny Santa," but really every track is great.
