Every year on August 20th, the country celebrates National Radio Day, a time to “honor one of the most longstanding electronic media and its role in our everyday lives.” This year, KEXP extends the holiday to a week, honoring the stations and the hosts who have touched the lives of our listeners in a meaningful way.
From DJ Jonathan L., whose mixes were recorded by John Richards’ brother and shared with our favorite morning DJ, or DJ Rodney Bingenheimer who told us he found out his show was cancelled via a letter from corporate; to loved-but-lost stations like (the Kevin Cole-led) REV 105 in Minneapolis, WOXY in Cincinnati (and Austin), or Indie 103.1 in Los Angeles, whose loss still resonates with their passionate hosts and listeners. Join us beginning Monday, August 14th through Friday, August 18th as we talk to the people who made these radio stations and shows great, while also spotlighting the music from their heydays.
