Gita Bird

Gita Bird (they/them) is a born-and-raised Seattlite, art-lover, and a general nerd about things. They grew up surrounded by artists, writers, and musicians, and, navigating those spheres, had KEXP constantly playing in the background (thanks to their music journalist mom!).

They became active at KEXP during the 90.TEEN program, and then as a DJ Assistant for the Morning Show on Thursdays, and a bit on The Roadhouse. They are honored to now be filling in on Overnight whenever possible: everything from the soundtrack of that niche indie film from the late '90s to Cambodian psychedelic to jazz from all eras and trip-hop — and they are always on the prowl for more tunes and discoveries!

They have one million interests on constant rotation in their brain. Current ones include Patti Smith’s works, David Lynch’s filmography, permaculture (ecosystem arts?), and pre-colonial customs of the Philippines, where 50% of their ancestors are from.

Wherever their interests lie, music remains a core expression and an enriching, meditative tie to community.
