I found my way into broadcasting with a news podcast in high school and have been chasing that feeling ever since. That eventually led me here – to what I’d argue is the greatest music community in the world.
At KTXT, the campus station at Texas Tech in Lubbock, I started on the street team and worked my way up to overnight sub-DJ — doing the unglamorous, essential work that keeps a local scene alive. We booked small shows, packed out rooms, and built a community around the Bright House, a scrappy cultural center and venue that meant everything to us. When the station changed formats, it cut that chapter short, but not the momentum.
After graduating, I moved to Denver and joined KGNU, progressing from late-night slots to a regular rotation on the Afternoon Sound Alternative. Outside the booth, I stayed deep in the scene as Artist Hospitality Coordinator for the Underground Music Showcase, where I managed the mainstage green room and artist check-in. I also served on the selection committee for a local band incubator and handled PR for the jam band Liebermonster.
I eventually moved back to Dallas to be an auntie to my incredible nephew, but it didn’t take long to realize radio still had its hooks in me.
Last April, I joined KEXP’s volunteer hospitality team, and by June, I’d moved to Silverdale. In September, I had the honor of DJ assisting for Stas THEE Boss, making the trip across the Sound just to be a part of this space. (I’m an honest five-minute skip away!)
Being here feels surreal — but also exactly where I’m supposed to be.
