Scottish quartet Holy Esque burst onto the worldwide scene in 2016 with the incredibly well-received full-length At Hope’s Ravine. They then went radio silent for over a year, until sharing “I Am the Truth,” today’s Song of the Day, in May. The emotional track features the signature gravel-tinged vocals from frontman Pat Hynes and comes from the Glasgow band’s sophomore album, Television/Sweet. The album, which dropped in June, “harbors feelings of disconnect in a reality of hyper-connectivity, its industrial textures simultaneously pushing and pulling the listener into a false sense of realism and acceptance,” according to a press release. Of “I Am the Truth,” the Hynes explains: “In an age of relentless social pressure, ‘I Am The Truth’ explores the fear of true acceptance and the extreme measures we entertain to achieve this imaginary nightmare.” Watch Holy Esque’s KEXP in-studio performance from 2015 below.
