Super-ambient Icelandic duo Kiasmos brought their very space-y minimalist brand of techno to the new KEXP live room in support of their Swept EP, the second they dropped in 2015. The two longtime friends began working professionally together when Ólafur Arnalds was the touring sound engineer for Janus Rasmussen's project Bloodgroup, and they bonded over the shared feeling that shoegaze-y techno needed to stop and a harder genre needed to take its place. This dance emphasis is evident in the deep, complex percussion that pounds underneath the soaring synths and sweeps that would normally be at home in the Tycho-esque downtempo breed of electronic. As the duo describes with a laugh, "You can listen to it in your kitchen while you're making food or something, but our shows are designed to dance with your heart, crying on the dance floor." Let out tears of joy as you watch this session now:
