  • It's hard to believe it's already been three years since the release of the Fleet Foxes album Helplessness Blues (voted #1 album of 2011 by KEXP listeners). Frontman Robin Pecknold took to Facebook yesterday to share an update:
For anyone who’s curious, this is a short Fleet Foxes update – been a while! So, after the last round of touring, I decided to go back to school. I never got an undergraduate degree, and this felt like the right time to both see what that was about and to try something new after a while in the touring / recording lifestyle. I moved to New York and enrolled at Columbia, and I’ve mostly been doing that, but I’m working on songs and excited for whatever happens next musically, even if it’s down the line. Hope all is well out there.

    Best,Robin

Fingers crossed the new material sees the light of day soon. [Consequence of Sound]
  • If you can't get enough Dum Dum Girls videos (and based on the number of views on our in-studio session, this seems to be the case), the band has shared a second video for the single “Rimbaud Eyes” off their Sub Pop release, Too True. Directed by Tamaryn (who you might remember from last year's KEXP Bumbershoot Lounge session), the clip spotlights Dee Dee Penny in dreamy pastel colors. Watch: [Spin]

  • L.A.-based artist Lord Huron has shared a new video today, too, for the track "Ends of the Earth," off his full-length debut, Lonesome Dreams. Watch the shadow puppets' story below, and check out their KEXP in-studio session here. Lord Huron will be back in town on Thursday, August 7th for the Summer Meltdown Festival. [Under the Radar]

  • First The Simpsons, then Game of Thrones -- now Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi has turned his sights to a new television show, Manhattan, due to debut on WGN in July. The Icelandic icon will compose the score, along with his longtime collaborator Alex Somers. (The two previously worked on the soundtrack for the film We Bought a Zoo.) Set your DVRs! • Seattle's own Macklemore has teamed up with Nike to design a special pair of Air Jordans. Named the "Northwest King Salmon," these pinkish-orange kicks are currently unavailable for retail, so if you're looking for new sneakers to wear down at the Ballard Locks, you may have to wait a little longer. Review Revue: Richard Peterson's First Album

As you might have noticed, the pictures I gathered on my most recent visit to the KEXP stacks were exclusively from the local section, and I feel like I've been learning a lot of our fair city's history that simply living here for 12+ years has not been enough to absorb. Case in point: Somehow I've…
