About Sway and Swoon
Sway and Swoon DJ Collective was established in 2015 by Moni Tep (JusMoni) and Stasia Irons (Stas Thee Boss), two musicians and cultural workers from Seattle and Tacoma, Washington. The collective’s mission to cultivate cross-cultural and intergenerational spaces, both physical and in praxis, is based in healing engaged learning and resource sharing, recording and archiving the narratives of marginalized people and responding to the lack of infrastructure for Black Queer artists in the greater Seattle community to sustain their practices. Stewardship and collaboration is central to Sway and Swoon’s practice and is intrinsically linked to the collective members ancestral connection to the trans atlantic slave trade and personal lived experiences informed by this particular narrative. In 2023, the collective consists of an additional member, DJ Yaddy, a Seattle native who is also the host of KEXP’s Street Sounds.
