- "Life is like a song. A Hummable song. We'll never stop wishing that we live on in our song. Our hummable song." sings Cloud Cult's Craig Minowa in The Ghost Inside Our House. There wasn't a shortage of great songs in 2008. Great albums might have been harder to come by, as the concept and relevance of the album evolves, that's okay, as long as there are great songs. Some of my favorite albums of 2008 are listed here. In the words of another Craig, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, "And the sing-along songs will be our scriptures. We gotta stay positive."

- What an incredible year for music. My simple criteria for making my favorite releases. *I listened to the cd repeatedly (as in entire album, repeat, then finally swap out another cd after a few days, revisit the cd, seek therapy for repeating cd). *I saw some of the most insanely historic and amazing live performances ever from these bands.

- So the past year was easily the busiest and most chaotic of my life since 2005. Three years ago, I graduated from college, held down four jobs, and traveled across the world (not all at the same point, thankfully). Those were good times. While this year saw less travel, I did end up going back to school, went through the ups-and-downs of that thing called love, and even tackled a new job: DJ at KEXP! 2008 supplied my ears with plenty of really good music. I kept waiting for something revolutionary to cross my path, but it never happened. While there's still four more weeks to discover something jaw-dropping, I'm stoked to say that, in no particular order, these albums were my favorite from the past year:

- I've been playing these tunes to death in 2008. Some of them may have only appeared once or twice on my radio show, but I've found myself drawing for them again and again in the clubs. From the streets of London, to dark warehouses of Berlin and smoky clubs of Paris, these selections represent the leading edge of underground electronic music. It was impossible for me to narrow my list down to 10. So here's my Sweet 17 for 2008 - the tunes I just can't get enough of. Check Expansions on Sunday nights 9pm-Midnight for more music of this ilk from Riz, Masa, and me.
