The third album from this Nashville-based singer-songwriter is a sparse affair that mirrors the intimate sound she achieves in concert with her partner David Rawlings. The austere sound takes in elements of old-timey, blues and gospel with a bit of Tin Pan Alley pop and even a few hints of rock 'n' roll. A mostly somber recording, it sounds like an even more bare-bones version of her previous album, the bone-chilling Hell Among the Yearlings. 8/15/2001
