Kendrick Lamar: good kid, m.A.A.d city
Buy! - (Top Dawg/Aftermath)
The Compton native’s follow-up to his acclaimed independent debut Section.80 is a deep, personal statement of a hip-hop album that uses each track as a chapter in its overarching, semi-biographical “short film” narrative. The contextual, chapter-like songs and scattered interludes that progress the story make it an intensive listen at times, but there is no denying Lamar’s immense lyrical skill and storytelling ability, nor his underlying messages and the interesting song compositions that bring Aquemini-era Outkast to mind. 11/9/2012 - Mike Ramos
