This New York-based band’s second album is a vibrant and expansive update of Peruvian chicha, a musical style originating in 1960s-era Peru that combined cumbia with surf, psych-rock and other styles. Chicha Libre employ a variety of acoustic and electric instrumentation ranging from effects-laden electric guitars and vintage synths to congas, timbales and more to flesh out their colorful sound. 4/20/2012
